Kitsuné : brief about the fashion brand

Brand concept: Timeless

Kitsuné’s first ready to wear collection was launched by Masaya Kuroki in spring / summer 2005 at the Paris venue Palais de Tokyo. Defining the new classic with distinguished clothing for men and women, of the highest quality for everyday life.

-Luxurious Cashmere knits, made in Scotland, with hand finishing.

-Cotton oxford shirts – made in Italy, by a napolitan Sartoria.

-Raw & used selvich denim jeans made in Japan in Okayama on original machines from the 40’s

A special care is given to the quality of the fabrics and the tailoring of the garments – strategic sourcing of factories that still embrace artesian methods for a durable and timeless product. Combining the philosophy of tradition - with a modern attitude and shapes for clothing that last.

« In architecture, piers spend more time working on the structures, the foundation and the materials before studying the outlook. This is how I work on the clothing, I’m not looking for proportions which are too tight or too loose – but just right for today’s environment » explains Masaya Kuroki ‘ I’m not trying to create something new but to master the standards.

Born in 1975 in Tokyo, Masaya Kuroki moved to Paris at the age of 12 and settled into French culture and life. Graduate as architect dplg in 1999. The result of his Franco-Japanese upbringing and his architectural studies Kuroki was obsessed by style of – quality - pure lines and sharp details. He has gracefully switched from one creative field to another and has brought to fashion design an unusual outlook that stems from his architectural studies.

Founded in 2002, Kitsuné has gained considerable notoriety over the past five years for their collaborations with Pierre Hardy, Colette, APC, New balance, Martin Margiela, Hussein Chalayan and have gained recognition in the designer clothing market in some of the most renowned boutiques worldwide: Jeffrey, Colette, Loveless, Le Bon Marche, Dover Street Market, Bloomingdales, 10 Corso Como, LaneCrawford, etc..

*****L : More about the brand

Bonjour,

Founded in 2001 by Thierry Le Pin, the brand *****L (pronounced “cinq étoiles luxe”, i.e. five stars luxury) is a novel combination of two usually conflicting worlds — luxury and sportswear.

With an ironic, playful and laid-back attitude, the brand keeps throwing us off the scent, playing with the familiar codes of sportswear : fabrics traditionally used by luxury brands, a special care for the finishing touches, all garments made in Europe — all of these give the brand a high-end positioning. Through bold reinterpretation, the brand manages to change our perception of the classics of sportswear.

The whole collection, including such wardrobe essentials as sweat-shirts, jogging pants, T-shirts, and jackets, is embroidered with the logo *****L, a reference to the absolute comfort of luxury hotels.

Quality and comfort are the key values of the brand. You can feel them even before trying the clothes on, as they are conveyed by the rich, smooth, mostly jersey fabrics — 100% cotton velvet, silk, wool, astrakhan, or mink.

For all these reasons the brand appeals to a varied clientele — since anyone, boy or girl, can relate to this reinterpretation of sportswear and make it his or her own.

*****L just launched their online store, and will soon (April 2008) open their first shop at 17 rue de Picardie, Paris.

*****L was created by Thierry Le Pin, former head of design and production at Joseph and former sales executive at Yohji Yamamoto.
